The highlight of Shikotan is considered to be Cape Crab and the Spanberg lighthouse standing on it, named after the captain who in the 18th century discovered more than three dozen Islands of the Kuril range, including Shikotan. For a while, the island even bore the name of the captain of the expedition, but then it was returned to its historical name. Cape Crab itself got its name because of its external similarity to an arthropod that lives in local waters. This is clearly visible in the views from above.
