The most calm Bay on the South-Eastern coast of Shikotan is Church Bay. On both sides of the Bay are located two Islands – Aivazovsky and the Ninth shaft. Church Bay is interesting for its history and nearby objects: a larch forest, the site of a former Japanese settlement, the mountains of Notoro and Tomari (two ancient extinct volcanoes). In this Bay there is a house built by the reserve's inspectors.
