The main natural attraction of Kunashir is considered to be the tyatya volcano, this giant (height of more than 2 km) "woke up" last time in 1973, after that people left the Northern part of the island and it is still the most deserted region of Kunashir. Next to the volcano is a dead forest that was almost completely wiped out during the last eruption, huge firs were completely covered with ash. The ascent to the volcano is very difficult and even dangerous in some places, but from its top there is an amazing view not only of all the sights of Kunashir, but also of the nearby Islands.
