Chekhov peak, rising 1045 meters above sea level, is located near Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk. This is one of the two highest peaks of the Susunai range, the second – standing nearby mount Pushkinskaya. At the time when Sakhalin belonged to Japan, Chekhov peak was a sacred mountain. It offers a stunning panorama: in the East – the sea of Okhotsk and the Susunai valley with its lakes Changeable and Tunaychey, in the South-the Aniva Bay and lake Vavayskoe, in the West – the mountains of the Kamyshov range. They say that when the weather is clear and cloudless, you can even see the island of Hokkaido. Well, and of course Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk itself.
